Drudix photo books - FAQ (Book design)
At first add a whole page set on the page that should be empty. For adding a page
set perform a right mouse button click on the desired page on the page selection
window and choose "Add page set at this page". Now a page set with blank
pages has been inserted. Not required pages in the book can be moved by clicking
on the page and holding the mouse button. Drag the page to the desired position
in the page selection window. A dialog will appear. Choose "Insert page"
on the appearing dialog to move the page.
To avoid the white lines on the edge of the the page it is important, that you put your frames and images either over the cutting edges (lines where the paper gets cut) or not exactly on them.
Do not put them very close or exactly on the cutting edges!
This white lines occur, if the paper lies minimally wrong at cutting, or if the images and frames are exactly on the cutting edge.
The following images will show you the problem:
The red lines in the left image symbolize the cutting edges. The white lines, which occur out of it, are normally smaller than one millimeter. But they are still visible and distracting.
So we recommend to put the images and frames not exactly on the cutting edges.
Another possibility would be to put the images and frames over the cutting edges.
The bleed is maximal three millimeters.
The following images show how it should be:
Drag the image or background onto the gray area that is still visiable next to or below the editing window.
If you point at a image in the image bar which is located at the left border and click the right mouse button a context menu shows up. With it you can rotate images.
Use a predefined layout from the category "Last page" or just leave the lower image frame empty.
Just drag the area "erase" from the upper left corner of the standard background colors onto the books page.
When inserting an image you will be asked how you want it inserted. It's best to choose the default (first option). The second option will fit the picture into the frame and hence depending on the size of the frame it will be distorted more or less.
This problem occurred until the end of June 2008 and has been fixed now. Problems may only occur if special fonts will be used.
If you want to write more than one line into a layout box for a text you have to make sure that you can read all of the lines in the layout box. Otherwise you can’t order the book and a red warning will occur in the layout box.
It is not possible to save layouts you have designed and load them as a template, yet.
As an alternative you can copy layouts you have created and paste them on another page of your photo book. Therefore you have to right click on a book page in the page selection window. A context menu will show up where you have to choose "Copy" to copy the selected layout.
Another right click on any page of your book will show the context menu again. Now you have to choose the command "Paste" to insert your desired layout on any other page of your book.
If the selected page has already content on it you will be asked if you want to overwrite the existing one.
At the moment we can only provide a restricted number of fonts. But it is planned to provide more fonts in future.
The reason for the restricted number of fonts is the licensing law. So we cannot embed all fonts in Drudix.
Currently we are working on a plan to embed more fonts legally. Our goal is to support all TrueType-fonts.
