Load Images
Note: The following explained functions of the tab page "Images" work also in exactly the same way on the tab page "Pdf".
To decorate your product with digital photos you have to load them from your data medium. Therefore select the tab page "Images" in the left page selection window. Here you can add images by clicking on "Add new image group".
It doesn't matter whether you use your hard disk, a usb stick or a CD. Afterwards enter the name for the created image group. When your images are once loaded into your photo book you can edit it on another computer too, because the photos are saved in the book file.
Images as page background
When you want to use an image as background of a book page, you only have to drag it with the left mouse button from the
Side window
on the desired book page.
Then you will be asked, if you want the image as background for the selected page or as background for the double page.
Note: You can drag the image right under the book
. So your selected image will automatically be used as background for a double page.
Insertion of layout-frames
Layout-frames are used to assign your images, colors, writings, or backgrounds a position in your photo book.
To insert a layout-frame in your photo book, select the left the tabe page "Layout" in the left side window. Afterwards select a category of the frames. They vary in the number of the layout-frames.
The dark green displayed boxes in the side window are image frames. The salmon boxes are intended for writings. When you have choosen a layout you can easily assume it into your photo book. Therefore drag the layout from the left side window with the left mouse button on one of the book pages.
Note: In the operation mode "expert"
you are able to drag single text boxes from the tab page "Layout" into your photo book.
Insert images into a layout-frame
When you want to fill a layout-frame with an image, you only have to drag the image from the tab page "Images" with the left mouse button into the layout-frame. If you are over the layout-frame the cursor changes his form.
Now release the left mouse button.
After that a dialog window
opens, which gives you customization possibilities of the images in the layout-frame. Confirm your selection with a click on the "OK" button.
Image quality
You find information about the image quality in the small images of the used image group on the left. When an images is used on several pages, only the lowest quality will be indicated with a colored frame around the small pictures of the image group on the left. Quality rises from red to green. This indication depends always on the size of the frame, in which the image is. In which steps the quality is messured you can see in the images below:
Note: If your image has a bad quality in the current frame, you can make your frame smaller to rise the image quality (only possible in the operation mode "expert"!).
Coordinating of layout-frames
In the operation mode "expert" you have the possibility to drag single layout-frames onto the book pages. You can also adjust the frames according to your wishes.
In this operation mode you have the possibility to rotate,crop and resize the layout frame. For interacting click on one of the black squares in a
selected layout-frame
and hold the mouse button.
Insert text into a layout-frame
When your selected Layout contains a text box, you can easily fill it with text by clicking twice on the box with the letter "T". After that a
dialog window
opens, in which you can enter your text on the left side. On the right side you can change several settings concerning the formatting of the text.
Note: You don't have to fill all frames. If you don't have a content in a frame, this frame will not be printed.
Page numbers
You can choose a single page print, when you need it. This means, that the page numbers are only counted on the right page. The left page stays empty. You have although the possibility to fill the left page with content. But note, that the page numbers are only on the right page. This function is useful for example for people, who are writing a dissertation, which has to be printed onesided.
Presentation and designer mode
Select the symbol with the lens in the menu bar, to get into the presentation mode. Here you see your book in the way it looks, when it gets home to you later. The barcodes and logos will also be displayed in the same way like they will be in the book. Therefore you should leave the layout-frame empty or take a layout from the category "Frames for last page", when you design your book that way. Click on the button for the "designer mode" to work on your design again.
The page selection window
To navigate between the different book pages just click on the desired book page
in the page selection window. The currently selected page will be displayed with a blue background int the page selection window. Here you can also copy and move pages.
Change page numbers
On the end of the page selection you find buttons with a plus and a minus symbol. Hereby you can add pages to your book or delete them. The content of that pages will be lost when you delete them. Because of the manufacturing process you can add or delete either two, four or eight pages.
Bleed
To avoid the white lines on the edge of the the page it is important, that you put your frames and images either over the cutting edges (lines where the paper gets cut) or not exactly on them.
Do not put them very close or exactly on the cutting edges!
This white lines occur, if the paper lies minimally wrong at cutting, or if the images and frames are exactly on the cutting edge.
The following images will show you the problem:
The red lines in the left image symbolize the cutting edges. The white lines, which occur out of it, are normally smaller than one millimeter. But they are still visible and distracting.
So we recommend to put the images and frames not exactly on the cutting edges.
Another possibility would be to put the images and frames over the cutting edges.
The bleed is maximal three millimeters.
